WO Nolan and three other Petawawa-based soldiers with the 1st Battalion of the RCR were killed in one of the fiercest battles Canadians have fought since arriving in Afghanistan four years ago.
At the memorial service in Petawawa Nolan’s longtime friend Robert Miller recalled a proud Newfoundlander who loved life, liked to draw, was passionate about hockey, and adored his children.
His sons wept as they listened to the eulogy.
“He has three beautiful boys, that he is very proud of and loved very much,” Miller said, pausing often to regain composure. “Every moment Rick could he spent with his boys, coaching them, teaching them, and giving those boys the opportunity to grow into fine young individuals as Rick did.”
